Encountered on a street in Cologne....
Me & my buddy had spent 2 weeks working 16 hr days in Kerpen from the time we had hastily flown in to Germany trying to fix a botched project. Finally, when we got some time for ourselves on a dreary Oct Sunday, we decided to go sightseeing in Cologne. After doing the the usual tourist spots - we were wandering without any purpose and had totally lost all sense of direction. When the time came to go back to Kerpen - we needed to locate the Cologne Hbf (central train station). My friend saw a "desi" guy walking up towards us and approached him. The guy was very helpful and provided us directions and started asking us about India - he was from Kolkatta but had settled in Germany and had not been back for years! His story - had studied in Germany, worked, married a local and raised kids, got divorced etc. etc. After chatting for a few, he uttered - "...my noncooperation is with methods and systems, never with men.... - do you know who said this?". Both me & my buddy were a little fazed as this came out of nowhere and we were shaking our heads in negative. He then proceeded to open a book to show us a list of quotes written in his own hand - asking us do you know who said all these words? Finally exasperated, he told us the answer - "Mahatma Gandhi". Of course, we should have had a vague guess - desi guy, not been to India, uttering quotes which included words like noncooperation!! Finally, he says, "Do you know how I know all this?". We are left nodding our heads once more. He continues in a very serious tone - "I am Mahatma Gandhi."!!!! Me and my buddy were looking at each other - trying to gauge how we should react. The guy by now was pretty upset and angry - he started yelling loudly and gesturing at us - all the folks were now staring at us.....we quickly started walking away using the directions he had civilly provided a few mins ago leaving him yelling after us. As we turned around the corner, I noticed we were on Minoritenstraße....and yes his directions did get us back to the station!
